Adele's Grammy Hair

The winner of six Grammy Awards, Miss Adele showed off her gold locks on the red carpet as well as her shiny new trophies.

Adele favors vintage classics in both her hair and makeup. We'll go over her statement lip and winged eyeliner tomorrow, but today, let's take a look at how to get those gorgeous curls.

Step 1. Curl hair in sections with a 1" curling iron. Keeping each curl rolled close to the head, pin using bobby pins.
Step 2. Wait for hair to cool thoroughly. (This is a great time to do your makeup!)
Step 3. Remove bobby pins.
Steps 4 & 5. Comb through curls with fingers, loosening them, but not separating them too much.
Step 6. Spray with hairspray to finish.

Popular on Pinterest - Hair

Have you been to Pinterest? If not, stay off and you may keep your life. It may be my all-time favorite time waster. It's a great place to find and record anything from recipes, crafts or, as in today's post, hair tutorials. (If you want an invite, let me know. I'll hook ya up.)

Here are 3 tutorials I keep seeing pinned over and over again.

Maskara's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Hair

I've tried this one and need to try it again now that I played with the technique a little. It definitely gives you volume.

The Small Things Blog's Half French Twist

Kate has a ton of hair tutorials for medium/short hair. She's a professional hairstylist so she definitely has some tricks up her sleeve!

The Beauty Department's Piece-y Pony

This is a newer tutorial, but so many people have pinned it, I had to include it. It's a twist (literally) on the standard ponytail.

What hairstyles have you pinned lately?

Ask Jill - Bronze on Tan

Tati asks: "What types of eyeshadow look good on someone with a dark complexion?"

Well, Tati. I could answer that here. But how about I show you instead?
(Disclaimer: All photos were taken with my phone and shaky hands.)

This is my good friend and neighbor, Tati.

Her go-to makeup items are mascara and eyeliner. She rarely wears foundation and lip gloss and never wears eyeshadow. Tati wanted a simple, everyday look. Here's what we did.

Step 1: Apply a lightweight foundation over entire face using a foundation brush.
Step 2: Use a mineral concealer to cover up any dark circles or blemishes.
Step 3: Apply blush just under the cheekbone and back into the hairline for a natural look.

Step 4: Follow up with a mineral powder to set the foundation.
Step 5: Pat on a cream eyeshadow in bronze all over the eyelid and up to the brow.
Step 6: Apply a light, shimmery shadow on the brow bone and just above the cheekbones to draw light toward the eye.
Step 7: Brush a glittery brown shadow in the crease and the outer corner of the eyelid.
Step 8: With a black eye pencil, draw a fine line toward the inner corner of the eye and thicken the line toward the outer corner. Extend the line further for a winged look.

Step 9: Apply black mascara to both upper and lower lashes.
Step 10: Finish lips with a nude lipstick and a dab of lip gloss.

Here's Tati after I curled her hair with a flat iron. (My favorite way to curl medium-length hair.)

Start to finish, this look takes about 30-40 minutes. That's including hair. It's the perfect style for the mom-on-the-go.

Let Tati know what you think in the comments below!

Dry Shampoo Review

Rhyming words make me smile. One of these dry shampoos made me smile too.

I've been growing my hair out for about 1 1/2 years and have tried to blow dry, curl and flat iron it as little as possible. Thus, I try to only wash it every other day. Some days it's fine, others…not so much.

On those "not so much" days, my hair can look a little greasy. Product can make it even worse. So I've been very anxious to see if dry shampoo could extend the life of my style.

I purchased Kenra Platinum Dry Shampoo last week. After I got home I realized I had gotten a sample of Suave Professionals Dry Shampoo Spray in the mail. So here's my take on both.

I tried Kenra on second-day hair. Following the instructions, I shook the can and sprayed the product throughout my hair. I focused mainly on my part at the roots since that's what would show. After the shampoo dried, I brushed my hair to disperse the product.

My first impression? I used so little product that I was nervous it would work. I couldn't see anything on my hair, but after brushing, success! My hair had lost its greasy sheen. Even better, it had more volume than before I started.

Some hairsprays smell overly sweet or like rubbing alcohol, but this one smells almost tropical with a mango-melon scent. A plus in my book!

Another plus? Kenra offers a 100% money-back guarantee. If you're not satisfied, just return your product to the place of purchase and you'll receive a full-refund. Kenra Platinum Dry Shampoo can be purchased at salons (for the money-back guarantee) or online.

Up next was Suave. The instructions told me to hold the can 8-10 inches away from my hair and spray on my roots. Then rub in the excess powder with the heat of my hands.

The biggest initial difference was that I could see the powder. My hair is dark, but even after rubbing the product in, it was still visible. I had to really work for it to fully dissolve.

After all that work I was disappointed. My hair still seemed greasy. There was less of a sheen, but the oil never fully absorbed. The scent was so-so and I felt like I needed to wash my hands after using the product.

Maybe using the Kenra first spoiled me, but I probably won't use the rest of my sample can. If you'd like to try it for yourself, Suave Professionals Dry Shampoo can be purchased where Suave Professionals products are sold.

Have you used dry shampoo? What is your favorite?

Bling on the Ring

You don't need to put a ring on that finger to have some bling. Add some jewels to your next manicure for a funky twist on the accent nail.

SUPPLIES
small Swarovski crystals or rhinestones
main color nail polish
accent color nail polish (match crystal color)
clear top coat
nail glue
tweezers

Step 1. Using main polish color, paint all nails except accent nail.
Step 2. Paint accent nail using second color. Allow this color to dry thoroughly before step 3.
Step 3. Adhere crystals to accent nail using tweezers and nail glue.
Step 4. Finish nails with clear top coat. This will make the crystals really shine!

As always, let me know if you do this look! I'd love to see how it turns out.

Opposite Day

It's the day of love and you want to look fab for your man, but how to best get his attention? Turn Valentine's Day into Opposite Day.

Men respond to visual cues. To make sure he takes notice, become a different version of you. He'll think he's cheating on you with…you.

If you normally wear your hair down, pull it back into an elegant ponytail.

If flats are your go-to shoe, slip on some girly heels.

If you prefer a nude makeup look, amp up the color.

Whatever you do, don't do it halfway. Make a statement he'll be sure to notice.
